Miatafun's 2007 National Park Grand Tour

Day 1

Start point at this time is "I HOP" off the I-10 FWY. near Alabama. Look for the sign.

From Southern California, we will gather in Redlands for our exploration of the National Parks of the Southwest.  Heading east, our first exposure to the ancient wonders of nature will be Joshua National Park (www.nps.gov/jotr).  The granite and gneiss formations stand as testimony to the geological upheaval of the past.  We are in the High or Mojave Desert, elevation around 3,000 feet.  This area has the right combination of elevation and climate to have the largest concentration of Joshua Trees.

From Joshua Tree NP, we will head north across the desert, past the tiny settlement of Amboy and the Amboy Crater, and on to our first nights lodging at Nevada Landing Hotel & Casino in Jean Nevada.
