Titan Missile Museum Run

When: Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005

Time:  Meet at 9:00 AM, leave at 9:30 AM

Meeting Place: Chevron Gas Station on Idaho Rd. Just North of U.S. 60

The club did this run in the past but for us newbies to the club or to Arizona, it is a chance to experience something not many people are aware exists. The Titan Missile Museum is 20 miles south of Tucson in Sahuarita. During the Cold War, there were 54 Titan II sites across the country. In 1987, the last Titan II site was deactivated by Ronald Reagan. This Titan II site is the only remaining one open to the public for inspection and education. Tours include a discussion and view of the above ground facilities, a six-story view of the missile in its silo, a visit to the underground launch control center, a simulated missile launch, and a close up view of the missile from the equipment level.

The tour lasts an hour and we do need to make reservations. The admission is $7.50 per person for seniors, groups of 20 or more and military. We will take the back roads to Tucson and stop to eat at the Foothills Mall on Ina Rd. before going to the Titan Missile Museum.

Please RSVP to me at nanaqueenbee@msn.com by Feb 12th so reservations can be made in advance.

The weather should be great for the tops to be down. We might even see the beginnings of the desert in bloom. Remember to RSVP for this interesting and fun event.
